My sister is the queen of seeing positive. She even has a bucket list and actively tries to find opportunities to tackle that list – like the time she participated in a flash mob.
The queen of positivity struck again. Last week, my sister sent me a link to something called an awesome jar as a great alternative to a laundry list of resolutions.
What is an awesome jar? It is a self-designed jar to hold little notes about all that you have accomplished or made you happy. The goal is to celebrate the little moments of happiness. At the end of the year, you review all of your accomplishments. For example:
As a household tackling fitness, eating right, and potty training (well one of us is focused on the last item), it is easy to get overwhelmed with these big objectives. The awesome jar encourages you to see the small positive changes in your life.
A new year’s awesome jar is an easy craft for any household (with or without children). It is an easy DIY project.
– A jar with a lid (don’t have a jar? An old Tupperware tub or butter container will do.) If you are planning 1 jar for the whole household, be sure you pick a large jar. Our awesome jar is about 12 inches tall.
– Scrap paper.
– Crazy Art Supplies. Paint, glue, stickers, feathers, felt shapes, googly eyes – the sky is the limit. Don’t forget a glue gun to affix the hefty items.
Step 1: Really scrub the container for the awesome jar clean and fully dry it. Remember the jar will be with you for 12 whole months.
Step 2: Decorate your awesome jar anyway you please. We went with paint, stickers, shells, gold coins (leftover Hanukkah Gelt), and felt designed to look like Mickey Mouse ears. To add Mickey Mouse ears, simply cut two circles out of black felt and use a glue gun to affix the bottom of each circle to the jar top. To give enough of an anchor, you probably want to fold down the circle approximately one thumb print.
Step 3: Cut small pieces of scrap paper — during the year fill out the blank notes with your achievements.
Step 4: Put your awesomeness jar in a spot where you can’t miss it.
Step 5: In late December, empty your awesome jar and celebrate all of your greatness.
